Use pages from your existing website to answer customer questions. The assistant imports the text on the pages you choose. It ignores images, videos, and layout.
If you already have a website, this is the fastest way to build your knowledge base.
Import one page
Use this when you only want specific pages, like Pricing or Delivery.
- Open Knowledge Base.
- Select Add source, then Your website.
- Under What to import, choose Single page.
- Enter the full URL, like
https://yoursite.com/pricing. - To add more pages, select + and enter another URL.
- Select Import pages.
Import your whole site
Use this when most of your site is helpful to customers.
- Open Knowledge Base.
- Select Add source, then Your website.
- Under What to import, choose Entire website.
- Enter your site URL, like
https://yoursite.com. - Select Scan and import website.
We follow your sitemap and on-site links, up to 1,000 pages on the same domain.
We pick up your brand color
The first time you import a whole website, we also read your site’s main color and apply it to your chat widget. You will see “We picked up your brand color and applied it to your chat” when the import starts.
This only happens once, and only while your widget still uses the default color. If you already chose a color in Customize, we leave it alone.
To change the color, or to set one when we could not find it, open Customize, then Appearance. See Customize your widget appearance.
While it imports
Large sites can take a few minutes. You don’t need to stay on this page.
Imported pages appear in your source list as Reading, then switch to Live when they’re ready.
When the import finishes, you’ll see a summary like:
- 42 pages imported
- 8 pages still being read
- 3 pages couldn’t be imported
All pages from one website are grouped into a single expandable source, so your list stays tidy.
Choose the right import option
Importing your whole site also imports your blog.
Keep it up to date
Imports are a snapshot. If your website changes, your knowledge base does not update automatically.
To refresh a source, open its row menu and select Re-sync.
If a page won’t import
Some pages can’t be read, usually because the text is loaded by scripts or the page is behind a login.
