Upload a document

Menus, price lists, brochures and policies, as PDF, Word, text, Markdown or CSV.

Upload PDFs, Word docs, spreadsheets exported as CSV, or plain text when the information isn’t on a web page. Great for menus, price lists, brochures, and policies.

How to upload

  1. Open Knowledge Base.
  2. Select Add source.
  3. Choose A document.
  4. Drag in your file, or click to browse.

You’ll first see Reading, then Live once the text is ready.

Your files already in Google Drive? See Import from Google Drive.

File types

  • PDF (.pdf)

  • Word (.docx)

  • Text (.txt)

  • Markdown (.md)

  • CSV (.csv)

  • Max file size: 10 MB per file

  • File count: unlimited

  • Limit: your total page allowance still applies

Older .doc files and Excel workbooks can’t be read. Open them and save as .docx, PDF or CSV first.

Price lists and other spreadsheets

Save the sheet as CSV. We read the first row as your column names, then keep each row together, so a price stays attached to the right item.

What makes a good upload

Your assistant can read text, not images. A PDF exported from Word or Google Docs usually works well. A scanned PDF or photo-based PDF usually won’t.

Quick test: open the PDF and try selecting the text.

  • If you can highlight it, we can read it.
  • If you can’t, it’s probably an image.

Sending documents to customers

The assistant can also send the original file in chat when that’s the best answer, for example sending your full menu when someone asks for it.

Replace a document

There’s no in-place replace. Delete the old file and upload the new one. This avoids duplicate versions and keeps page counts accurate.
